  • Encyclopedia of Disability
    Level 1 Reference HV1568 .E528 2006
    This resource contains alphabetical entries of various length in a wide, multidisciplinary range of topics relevant to disability issues. Each entry has a list of further readings. The fifth volume presents a selection of primary source documents in the field of disability - historical, worldwide texts and images ordered chronologically from the ancient world (e.g., "Hammurabi's Code of Laws") to the present.

    Free Online
    This government portal covers federal resources for individuals with disabilities. It is extremely comprehensive, but difficult to navigate because it connects to all information the federal government offers online about disabilities. If you need assistance using this resource, please inform the library staff.

  • Handbook of Disability Studies
    Level 2 Books HV1568.2 .H36 2001
    This volume is a collection of original scholarly articles divided into three sections: disability studies as a field, "Experiencing Disability," and disability in social contexts. Critical but not heavily theoretical, this book gives an in-depth, interdisciplinary overview of disability studies.

  • NLS Disability Awareness Bibliography
    Free Online
    Compiled by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in 2003, this bibliography lists articles, books, websites, CD-ROMs, video material and various other resources on disability issues as they occur in various contexts, such as "In the Classroom," "In the Workplace," "In Literature," and "In Mass Media."

  • Resources for People with Disabilities: A National Directory
    Level 1 Reference HV1553 .R48 1998
    Printed in a large typeface, this resource primarily consists of an extensive directory of organizations, companies, and associations that provide assistive technologies, funding, and other resources to people with disabilities. The entries are preceded by five short essays on topics such as teaching and communicating with the disabled and applying to colleges.

  • ADA Government Homepage
    Free Online
    The homepage of the American Disabilities Act, this is where to find ADA standards, guides, checklists, toolkits, status reports and other publications. The ADA site also publishes recent ADA settlements and other court cases. The wealth of information is not well served by the search function, which is most useful if you know exactly what you need; but this is the first place to look for official ADA documents.

  • Americans with Disabilities Act Handbook
    Level 1 Reference KF3469 .A85 1991
    A resource for those interested in the legal aspects of the ADA, this handbook discusses ADA statutory and regulatory requirements involving employment, discrimination and architecture. Some forms, guidelines and procedure recommendations are included.
