    From the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), an organization that stresses international collaboration on studies and social surveys. This web page provides free access to the questionnaires and results from social surveys conducted by ISSP on topics such as "Family and Gender Roles" and "National Identity."

    The Statistical Abstract of the United States (1878 to present) is an authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. This source contains statistics and tables on vital U.S. domestic issues such as agriculture, birth rates, population, religion, education, health and nutrition, natural resources, science & technology, transportation, and many others. The Abstract includes historical statistics, state rankings, state and metropolitan area data, county and city data, and quick facts about each state. You can search the abstract using the quick search box in the upper right. You can also browse data sets by clicking on sections in the left-hand column. The print version is updated annually, with more frequent updates to the electronic version.

    This book features historical statistics for Europe from 1750 to 1988. Consisting of pages upon pages of useful tables, the book covers information from agriculture to education and more. This is an excellent resource for older information.

  • Historical Statistics of the States of the United States

    A major problem in using statistical data for historical analysis is that of identifying data items that are available and consistently defined throughout the period desired.This work definitely enhances the value of census data for plotting historical trends.

    This 1st edition (2002) includes 2000 census population data and is divided into 10 chapters: Attitudes and Behavior, Business, Education, Health, Income, Labor Force, Living Arrangements, Population, Spending, and Wealth. Data sets, tables, and charts are easy to find using the Tables of Contents at the front; there is also a Subject Index located at the back of the book. There is a small glossary at the end, followed by a bibliography of statistics sources. While more current data can certainly be found (online using the Bureau of Labor Statistics or the Statistical Abstract of the United States) these succinct statistical reports can still be very useful if your research needs to be tailored specifically toward men.
